This design-build project
was completed in November 2009. The DK Design Group was first
chosen to complete the initial 30% design of the building, and was later
awarded the Design-Build Contract. The construction phase was
completed in seven months.
The initial design
of the 36,000 sf building began as a three dimensional, computer
generated model. This design tool has become invaluable when working with
the owner to visualize the final design.
The interior was
designed to incorporate 85% natural daylight. The lighting package
uses occupancy sensors, along with Daylight Harvesting, to take
advantage of the natural light.
The exposed
structure increases the perception of open space, while adding to the
modern / industrial concept. The sloping glass curtain walls and
clerestory windows add modern elements to the more traditional building
massing and palette of materials.
The central core was
constructed with curved perimeter walls to provide a more organic feel
and to effect the rectilinear plan. This area is made up of meeting rooms,
break area, and other required facilities. Placing these
functions at the core allows the remainder of the building to have an Open Plan Concept.
The entire Main Level was constructed on a 6" high access floor to house
power distribution and communication lines. This will allow
maximum flexibility for the owner. This raised floor also carries
through the building core as part of the planned flexibility for
expansion. If/when more space is required for additional phone
associates, much of the core can be relocated to the basement and walls
can be removed to create the needed space.
The new Call Center
also incorporates private rooms for new mothers returning to work.
A palette of warm wood grains and soft wall colors add to the
comfort of the rooms.
