Baker College - Downtown
     - Cadillac, MI

Originally built as a potato processing warehouse, the three story structure at 116 W. Harris in Cadillac has also served as an auto part warehouse and an office supply store.

Having stood vacant for nearly ten years, Baker College purchased the building to be used for college housing.

The DK Design Group was the design-build contractor on this project which was completed Summer of 2014. The building houses nine, two-bedroom apartments. The units will provide housing for thirty two students and one resident director.

The interior of the building preserved existing elements and materials wherever possible. The new stair and elevator towers that were added were intended to give a more modern contrast to the more traditional look of the existing building.

Gerber Life Call Center
     - Fremont, MI

This design-build project was completed in November 2009.  The DK Design Group was first chosen to complete the initial 30% design of the building, and was later awarded the Design-Build Contract.  The construction phase was completed in seven months.

The interior was designed to incorporate 85% natural daylight.  The lighting package uses occupancy sensors, along with Daylight Harvesting, to take advantage of the natural light.

The exposed structure increases the perception of open space, while adding to the modern / industrial concept.  The sloping glass curtain walls and clerestory windows add modern elements to the more traditional building massing and palette of materials.
